General Information

The Costa del Sol boasts more than 320 days of sun each year and an average temperature of 18 degrees. If you travel to the coastal area, you will not need warm clothes, even in winter. Nevertheless, if you want to travel inland within the province of Málaga and visit some of its mountain villages, the temperatures are lower in winter.

Information on Visas

Citizens of countries that are members of the European Union and citizens of Andorra, Austria, Monaco, and Switzerland can use their own identity documents to enter Spain. Citizens from all other countries must ensure that their passports remain valid 6 months subsequent to entering the country.

Citizens from the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand do not require visas if they are staying for less than three months. Visitors from other countries must contact their embassy or consulate to obtain information on visas.

Currency

The euro is the currency used in Spain. For out-of-pocket expenses, we recommend not using notes of more than 50 euros. There is an extensive network of ATMs that accept all nature of credit cards, ensuring that you will have no problems accessing cash.

Official Language

The official language of the Costa del Sol is Spanish, although English, now the province's second language, is widely spoken, particularly in tourist areas. French and German are also normally spoken in tourist offices.

Healthcare

Spain provides universal and free healthcare. If you are travelling from a European country, you must be in possession of the European Health Insurance Card, although you will still receive any necessary emergency treatment if you don't have one. In addition to public health, the Costa del Sol is home to numerous private hospitals and clinics that offer all nature of services where you will be attended in several languages.

In the event of an emergency, you can call 061, or 112, the European emergency telephone number where you will be attended 24 hours a day in Spanish, English, French, or German.
